In obtaining handicaps, official handicaps have been used or previous performances have been assed. It is the intention that handicaps cannot be changed, however the handicap committee voted unamimously to allow bribery into its constitution.
The first tee time is 8.48am so it would be appreciated that everyone could be at the course by 8.00am, latest.
Please remember that there are no bacon butties on arrival.
I will probably send another letter out prior to the event confirming times etc.
Finally as previous years in keeping the cost down to a minimum we are asking for a donation to the prize table. This can be anything from a bottle (full of course) to a pack of golf balls.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and a good day’s golf.
P.S. Any remaining monies must be paid to either Gary or myself a soon as possible, as we have to pay Ullesthorpe G.C.
Ibstock Town Golf Society

More information will be posted on the website in due course.

Twenty members of the Ibstock Town Golf Society travelled south to ‘The Gloucestershire Golf course’, situated in the beautiful surroundings between Bath and Bristol. The golf club consisted of 2 separate 18 hole courses, a large manor house which doubled up as the accommodation and restaurant.
For the second year a Ryder Cup style format was played with match play pairs on Friday and Saturday with match play singles on the Sunday. The 20 golfers were split into 2 teams established by age, with the youngsters becoming the ‘Cubs’ and the more experienced would be the ‘Lions’, battling it out for a total of 20 points.
The first day saw the ‘Cubs’ take the early initiative leading by 4 points to 1, with wins for the pairings of Scott Tyers/Paul Harrison, Jamie Smith/Paul O’Dell, Mark Harrison/Martin Willoughby & Andy King/Kieran Weston, only Ray Walker/Gary Robinson preventing the whitewash.
Not being demoralised the ‘Lions’ fought back on the second day with wins for Ivan Harrison/Barry Sankey, Ray Walker/Gary Robinson, Paul Durkan/Richard Grewcock, and halves for Alan Branson/Mick Hawes, against Adam Rennocks/Jamie Smith. The only loss by the ‘Lions’ was to Andy King/Scott Tyers, leaving the score at 5½– 4½ to the ‘Cubs’, Going into the Sunday singles.
The final day saw both teams receive pep talks from there prospective captains, Martin Willoughby (Cubs) & Graham Anderson (Lions) this after the previous nights gamesmanship by the ‘Cubs’, with the ‘Lions’ retiring for an early night only to be awoken, probably deliberately by the ‘Cubs’ returning from their night out, goodness knows what time it was.
Undeterred, the ‘Lions’ were determined to avenge last years defeat, however, things didn’t quite work out as planned, with the ‘Cubs’ winning by 12 points to 8.

This year’s golf weekend will be held at Aldwark Manor Golf Club, York on Friday to Sunday the 8th-10th April. There will be 2 new captains this year Mick Hawes (Lions) and Scott Tyers (Cubs) again playing the same Ryder Cup style, with the cubs going for a hat-trick of wins and the ‘Lions’ determined to get their names on the Presidents Cup for the first time.
The annual golf day took place on the 27th August 2004 at Cosby Golf Club. On a very wet and windy day the morning round saw the team event being won by Graham Anderson/Paul Evans/Barry Sankey with the runners up of Ray Walker/Alan Branson/Mick Hawes.
The afternoon round to find the singles champion, was reduced to 15 holes because of flooded greens, and was won by Sean Willoughby (24 Points) and now has to wear the coveted ‘Tartan’ jacket for future events for the next year. Runner-up in the singles was Graham Anderson (23 Points). This years Golf Day will be held on 26th August 2005. Initial invitations have now been sent out, so if you have not already done so, please let Mick Hawes know of your intentions to attend or not, as there are several other society members waiting on the wings, your deposit must then be sent by 31st May 2005.
LIONS BITE BACK AT THE MANOR
APRIL 2005
The golf society enjoyed another successful tour this year at The Aldwalk Manor Hotel and Golf complex, fitting venue for such a competition in which the young cubs tried to cement their authority on the competition and make it 3-0.
The Lions though had other ideas and bit back vigorously and clawed one back with a hard fought but thoroughly deserved victory to claim the Presidents Cup for the first time, winning 11 ½ - 8 ½ .
Under the guidance of new captain Mick Hawes the Lions proved tougher opposition than the previous two attempts and the Cubs had no answer to the challenge. The Lions won Friday and Saturday both 3-2, so being 6-4 up going into the singles on the last day they found themselves in a strong position. It was a position they were not going to give up.
There were some impressive performances for the Lions with Paul Durkan outgunning Martin Willoughby (now 40) in a close encounter, Richard Grewcock (Colonel Richmond) earning a valuable half with Kieran Weston, Ray Walker being to consistently annoyingly straight, much to the annoyance of Warren, Steve Odell showed is experience in a close match to shrug of the most improved, but not so experienced Cub in Andy King, Gary Robinson who later admitted sleeping with his putter, was to hot to handle for Jamie Smith, Gary didn’t miss a putt within 40ft all weekend so waking up with a stiff shaft in the mornings paid off handsomely. Mick Hawes who had played crap Friday and Saturday (his words) turned on the style to win the battle of the captains beating Cubs captain Scott Tyers 4 & 3, Scott never had an answer to Micks play although he did comment that Mick had more shots than Marks and Spencers.
There were some solid performances from the Cubs notably Mark Harrison who had the tough task of beating the Society Pro in Graham Angry Anderson, with Gary getting on so well with his putter, the story was oh so different for Graham and he finally admitted defeat and divorced his putter on the 18th green by calmly despatching it into the Lake in front of the green, recreating a scene from Excalibur (it aint the putter it’s the putter). Paul Harrison produced a solid round to see off Alan Branson, Paul Odell hung on to beat Martin Roe who also had an affair with his putter and Adam Rennocks went about his business to shrug of the challenge of Ivan Harrison.
A good weekend was had by all notably Martin Willoughby who celebrated his 40th during the weekend, with the boys getting together and whipping up there own dessert of the day for Martin at the dinner table on Saturday night, not to sure weather this event affected the cubs the following day but it certainly made an impact and an impression or two on Martin.
Well done to everyone on the weekend, long may it continue, and a big thank you must go to Graham and Gary for playing a big part in the organisation of the weekend, well done chaps, lets get the next one rolling…
